The countries in northwestern Africa do not have flood forecasting systems that can link weather forecasts to hydrological forecasts, in order to be able to issue flood warnings. Moreover, these countries are subject to deadly floods that can cause a lot of damages. The LISFLOOD model, which is the hydrological model in EFAS, is currently setup to run over northern Africa but is not calibrated. The main goal of this project is to implement the hydrological LISFLOOD model,on a set of representative basins in Maghreb countries where long time series of rainfall and discharge are available.

The post doc is a collaboration between JRC (Joint Research Center), Italy, ECMWF (European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts), UK, and DGRE (Direction Générale des Ressources en Eau), Tunisia. The position will be at Laboratoire HydroSciences in Montpellier.
